Dubai Holding unveils Marsa Al Arab, set to be a comprehensive tourist destination
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, atthe start of the week visited Dubai Holdingwhere he announced the launch of tourist project ‘Marsa Al Arab’
The ‘all in one’ tourist destination is intended to boost the family tourism market in Dubai, the project is expected to break ground in June costing approximately Dh6.3 billion and it is expected to be finished in 2020.
The Marsa Al Arab project will be spread across 4 million square feet of beachfront land; it will surround the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah with the creation of two artificial islands flanking the iconic hotel.One of the islands will be dedicated to family tourism and entertainment, while the other will be an exclusive luxury resort.
Commenting on the project, His Excellency Abdulla Al Habbai, Chairman, Dubai Holding commented “The launch of this new and ambitious project is in line with the directives of the visionary leadership to provide the finest and rewarding tourist experiences for visitors to Dubai.”
He added: “Dubai has achieved a global reputation for unique offerings and unprecedented achievements.This was feasible through proper planning and accurate execution of such projects, complemented by in-depth knowledge of the local market’s needs and capabilities.”
The project will focus on enhancing the family-orientated tourist market of Dubai; the highlights include a family friendly 2,400 room hotel, 400 new food-and-beverage outlets and world class tourist attractions that everyone can enjoy. The hugely popular Wild Wadi water park will be relocated and immersed into the heart of the new resort, in its new location Wild Wadi will increase by more than twice its existing size and will contain more rides and attractions.
Dubai Holding will also create ‘Marine Park’, a marine life edutainment center which will provide both a learning and entertainment experience for the entire family. With 1,000seat capacity live theater, the park will attract superlative shows that showcase many elements of marine life allowing its visitors to interact with exotic aquatic animals and fish.
Marsa Al Arab will also boast a1,700 seat theater, which will become the new home of the world-renowned show Cirque du Soleil.Daniel Lamarre, President and CEO of Cirque du Soleil, commented: “We look forward to raising the curtain for new fans in this new facility with new shows designed specifically for Dubai.”
The Jumeirah Group’s portfolio is expected to increase to 8,428 rooms with the inclusion of Marsa Al Arab’s 2,400 hotel rooms.In addition to the hotel accommodation the resort will also contain roughly 300 seafront residential apartments.
The private luxury resort, located to the left of the Burj Al Arab will have a luxury boutique hotel as well as 140 luxury properties available for sale and a private marina for its residents.
