Dubai International City is a mixed-use development by Nakheel. One of its primary aims was to meet the city’s demand for affordable housing. The area is a country-themed architecture of residences, business, and tourist attractions. Spreading over an area of 800 hectares (8 million square meters), the arrangement of the city is inspired by the traditional carpets of Middle East. The project contains studio and one-bedroom apartments and can accommodate over 12,000 residents. International City is a melting pot of the divergent nationalities and cultures making Dubai modern and cosmopolitan. Initiated with a vision to provide affordable yet stylish living experience to more than 60,000 people, International City has been successful in helping realise the dreams of many to own a home in Dubai.
Dubai International City is composed of 485 buildings embraces the residential districts of Central Business District (CBD), Persia, Greece, Spain, Morocco, England, France, Italy, Russia, China and Emirates. Attractions in the city include the Dragon Mart, which is the worlds biggest machinery and equipment market.
Many of the apartment buildings feature community store, grocery shops and pharmacies at ground level. The nearest shopping malls are the Festival Centre at Dubai Festival City and City Centre Mirdiff. Hotels nearby include the Premier Inn Dubai Silicon Oasis and the Desert Palm. There are no hotels within the development itself. Although the Dubai Metro does not serve International City, public buses and taxis are available.
International City is located in the Al Warsan region of Dubai, which is along the Dubai-Hatta road and between Interchange 5 and 6 of Emirates Road, opposite to the Dubai Central Fruit and Vegetable Market. It is located 9km from the Dubai International Airport, which is around a 15-20 minute drive from the center of the city. Developer Nakheel has planned for six key areas, including The Central District, Dubai Design Centre, The Dragon Mart, The Residential District, Lakes District and the Forbidden City. The hugely popular Dragon Mart across 50 hectares and is a large trade mall designed in the form of a colorful dragon, with a 1.4 kilometers long Central Spine. The dragon's head serves as the main entrance, which is accessible from the Dubai-Hatta road. With 2,000 parking spaces, it will serve as a commercial center for more than 3,000 Chinese companies.
