Dubai’s most luxurious development centred around world-renowned horse race course
Meydan City (also termed the Dubai Meydan District) is one of the emirate’s most ambitious projects: a development encompassing residential, sports and entertainment facilities. The Meydan race course sits as the centre of the complex, attracting the world’s media, celebrities, super-rich racing fans and royalty. The development has been described as a ‘world-class customised sports and entertainment facility’, encompassing a modern residential development, commercial development, a marina and boat house, the race course and shopping malls.
Dubai’s record-breaking feats often make headlines around the world, and the Meydan One project is no exception. Upon completion before 2020, this development will include the world’s tallest residential tower at 711 metres high featuring a range of luxury apartments in Dubai; a new mall; a 25,000 square metre indoor sports facility; the world’s biggest dancing fountain; the world’s biggest indoor ski slope; a beach and community facilities such as a civic plaza that will host up to 60,000 people; it’s also set to include a marina with 100 berths.
When complete, the tower will provide homes in Dubai for 78,300 residents, feature a conference centre, 5-star hotel, the world’s highest 360-degree observation deck (655 metres), the world’s highest sky restaurant (675 metres) and a marina yacht club, spread over its 5 million square metre base.
Other features include a 4 Km canal, a board walk and a heritage village in the first phase of the project, which will be strategically located between Meydan and Al Khail Road.
The new mall will be home to 300 commercal properties in Dubai and will feature a 150 metre by 80 metre retractable roof – a first for Dubai – to open during cooler winter months; along with cafes, restaurants, kiosk outlets and nightlife venues.
The ski slope will stretch for 800 metres and has been designed to attract professional skiers after a feasibility study found a 400 metre slope only attracted a certain calibre of sportspeople. The base of the ski slope will join to the Meydan Arena – with a seating capacity of 8,000 – which will host sports events, live concerts and theatre shows.
The Meydan development has been planned to ensure residents have good links to the rest of the city via the Dubai-Al Ain Road and Al Khail Road. However, it has also been designed as a self-contained development, to ensure residents and visitors have all the facilities they need on their doorstep.
